Post imported from Blogger Right so we are all well aware that I have been volunteering to make pics like the one above for Mental Health Awareness Month and The Keith Milano Memorial Fund. This has put some awesome authors on my radar like Brenda Rothert. I have been making my way through the list of books over on Shh Mom's Reading,
Turns out I've read a few of them already,
This brought me to checking out Amazon and noticing that Bound was Free. So I jumped all over it. I had intended to get Bound and purchase the other two books. This was until my Book Fairy gifted me Captive and Edge. The past couple of days I've been stealing time with my Kindle getting to know Kate and Ryke. I love these two. I have just finished Bound. Normally I would wait until I've finished the series but I couldn't, I need to tell you about this book NOW! Bound Synopsis - College senior Kate Camden has learned to adapt - to her last year of school, to the promise of motherhood, to the fact that she’s doing it all alone. But just when she’s learned to adjust, heartache threatens to break her apart.
Pro hockey player Jason “Ryke” Ryker has it all: adoring fans, a promising career, and a beautiful wife. But when his seemingly perfect life is shaken by tragedy, he’s left questioning whether having it all is ever more than an illusion.
When circumstance brings Kate and Ryke together, they discover they don’t have to hurt alone. Bound by a grief that haunts them both, they must rely on one another to survive heartbreak. But that grief is more powerful than they realize, and the tie that binds them together may ultimately tear them apart.
Ok so warning. This book will tug at your heart strings right off the bat. The emotions I felt for Kate in the first chapter were instant. Having been through a similar thing only mine was earlier on, I felt her heart break because I knew mine broke during what I went through. I could only imagine her situation being 100 times worse.
Taking everything Kate goes through into account it's understandable she's not wanting to repeat it all. She struggles in the beginning but once she comes to terms she's so strong. By the end of the book I was so proud of her. Love strong heroines who don't give up.
Jason Ryker (Ryke) goes through a loss as well. Not the same kind as Kate but definitely not any less of a heart break. The story goes through him making peace with the past and not turning history into a fairytale that he knows it wasn't. Coming to terms with guilt from his heart break he definitely makes an impression on me. I love how he learned, not want to make the same mistakes again. He walks into things with eyes wide open and cautious.
Kate and Ryke meeting makes them deal with everything that has happened and follows them along as they learn how to live life as well as honor the past. I loved how this book didn't just have them jump into bed straight away. With all the emotion in it, I felt a satisfaction of knowing that these two were moving forward together and weren't just starting something that would be over before it began (Well at least for now. Ask me how I feel after I read Captive).
I know this is all kind of cryptic but I don't want to take anything away from the story and want you to experience the way I did. Brenda has written such a honest story on how people learn to live again after tragedy and how things aren't fixed in an instant. That they take time.

This book is a follow on to Ryke and Kate's story in Bound. Set 2yrs after. Since I was so cryptic talking about Bound, I really feel it would be spoiling things to talk to much about it. Hopefully me saying the below isn't too spoilery.
I walked into this book thinking, surely this is going to be a happily ever after type of deal to follow up Bound and everything that Ryke and Kate went through.
Oh boy did I get it wrong.
Being completely honest I wanted to yell & scream at Brenda at the start of the book. How could she do that to them? Hadn't they been through enough?
Once I got through all the turmoil my poor heart was going through I saw that Kate and Ryke became stronger as people as well as a couple.
I adore the way the story unfolded and the ending was perfect for Ryke and Kate. Brenda definitely did the story and the history justice with this one.
If you want to check out the synopsis you can go here or you can jump over to Amazon and get yourself a copy.
Synopsis - One bad hit has left the career of young NHL Center Luke Hudson in question. When he arrives for rehab with a minor league team, his injury has robbed him of the edge that made him great.
Team trainer Adella Price’s job is to help Luke get back in peak condition. But their one on one sessions shake her resolve to remain unattached. Dell is hands-off to all hockey players, even one as charming and successful as Luke.
As Luke starts to get ahold of his game again, he loses his grip on his heart. Helping Luke get his edge back brings to light what Dell is missing from her life. But those who want them apart are relentless, and with their careers on the line, Luke and Dell must decide if their love is worth risking it all.
So as you can see by the Synopsis while we still get to see Ryke and Kate this one is about Luke & Dell.
After reading the first two books, I was extremely excited about getting onto Luke's story. He definitely did not disappoint. I loved the sexual tension between him and Dell. I also loved the fact they couldn't just be together straight off the bat. That due to circumstances they got to know each other first and things grew from there.
I loved the way the storyline played out and things were not as straightforward as they seemed initially.
This series is firmly in my favourites :).
